'It Follows' Screening and artist discussion

For 19-year-old Jay, the fall should be about school, boys and weekends at the lake. Yet, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can't shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind. Disasterpeace, the composer of the film, had worked largely on video game soundtracks and has little exposure to horror films. The score had to be written in three weeks in order to make the Cannes deadline. Despite all that, IT FOLLOWS took the 2014 Cannes Film Festival by storm and went on to exceed all expectations at the box office in 2015. Immediately after the screening, Disasterpeace will join us for a conversation about the background and inner workings of the score.

Rich Vreeland, a.k.a. Disasterpeace, is an American composer and musician. Interested in the perpetual challenges provided by sonic exploration, he has scored TV shows, videogames, and films (most recently, 2014’s It Follows). He has recently started creating software tools for music and iterating on the creative process itself.
