Build Your Own Voltage Controlled Mini-Stylus Synthesizer! FULL

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Limited Capacity full
Adding this to your schedule will put you on the waitlist.

Using a small Dr. Blankenstein synthesizer kit that will be provided to you, Drew Blanke will bestow upon you both a crash course in the art of soldering, as well demonstrating the basic principles of how a simple oscillator becomes a voltage controlled synthesizer. We do this together by building a small but powerful and highly customizable mini 8 note stylus synthesizer. With less than 20 components and a 1” x 1” circuit board, Blanke demonstrates how a small circuit can easily be built out into a much larger and exciting musical instrument.

Everyone will leave the workshop with the experience and skill of soldering a printed circuit board, a fully functional voltage controlled mini stylus synthesizer they built themselves, and, most importantly, the understanding that they are always just a handful of electronic components away from making a fun and creative synthesizer!

Basic proficiency in soldering is helpful, but not required. Please bring a 9 volt battery and a love of synthesizers.

** If you successfully register for this workshop, please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the session. Those not in attendance 5-minutes before the session begins, may forfeit their spot to the next person on the waitlist.

By registering for a workshop, you acknowledge that Moogfest may share your email address with the instructor for the purpose of planning and coordinating this event.

Hacking Sound (Systems)

The resurgence of a technological Maker Culture is undeniable, and Moogfest is a gathering for all those enthused by new tools for creative expression. This program includes a historical look at the evolution of dub reggae and home-made sound systems, radiating outwards from its native Jamaica. These artists and producers were hardware hackers, much like the creative technologists working on interactive sonic experiences and generative music... Read More →
